Lehigh Valley EMS Receive Equipment to Improve Heart Attack Care

Lehigh Valley Health Network and t he Eastern PA EMS Council have partnered to improve the care of patients who suffer heart attacks. LVHN’s Heart and Vascular Center recently donated ,000 to fund the purchase of broadband modems that will enable ambulance personnel in Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon and Schuylkill counties to send 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKG) wirelessly to area emergency rooms. This Lifenet equipment will accelerate the diagnosis and initiation of the life-saving care of patients suffering the most serious kinds of heart attacks, called ST-segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction of STEMI. The EMS Coucil’s gift of ,000 will fund the three-year data plan needed to facilitate the connection between the ambulance-based modems and the receiving hospitals.
